CANP 48th Educational Conference in San Diego

What is the CANP?
Founded in 1977, the California Association of Nurse Practitioners (CANP) is a state-based organization that brings together more than 40,000 Nurse Practitioners (NPs) who work in California. The CANP is the only association dedicated to advocating for NPs as they expand their roles in modern healthcare.
What is a Nurse Practitioner (NP)?
NPs are Registered Nurses (RNs) with additional training and education who fill gaps in California’s healthcare system, where Medical Doctors (MDs) need extra support. You can find NPs in rural and urban settings. They are qualified to diagnose disease, prescribe medications, and sign legally-binding documents such as a POLST.
NPs and End-of-Life Planning
Your relationship with your NP includes planning for end-of-life situations. Find me volunteering at the Compassion & Choices booth on Thursday and Friday, March 12-13, 2026. I will be handing out information on Advance HealthCare Directives (AHD) and dementia addenda.
As a board member of the San Diego Coalition for Compassionate Care (SDCCC), I will have decision aids and POLSTS to share with NPs attending the CANP 48th Annual Education Conference.
